Dwarf Coconut Hunting Amulets

Drawn from the collections at the Pitt Rivers museum at the University of Oxford for the Smithsonian Institution. Dwarf coconuts were carved with 'grotesque faces' to represent the spirits housed inside them. They were considered objects of great power and were used while hunting. They were collected in the early 1900s in Papua New Guinea.
